I got this idea from someone on Pinterest (so good for inspiration), I didn't believe it could be as simple as it looked. But I can confirm it is! And its so much fun and a little addictive.
First of all decide on what shape you want to cut out. (Make sure its smaller than the vinyl record).
Then draw it onto the record with a white marker. Heat the oven to about 100 C and once heated place your record on a grease lined tray and pop in the oven for about 30secs. TIP - I found the my pizza tray fitted the record a treat!
After about 30secs the vinyl should have gone a bit floppy, if not put back in the oven for another 15secs. When it is floppy, carefully take out the vinyl record and now you need to work fast. Cut along your outline with the sharpest scissors you have - be careful though because it can get a bit hot. Once it starts to cool and get too stiff to cut, put back in the oven for another 30secs and repeat cutting your shape until your done. If you do decide to make the butterfly shape, remember to gently fold the wings while it's still warm. Once cooled you can stick them up on your wall, I found a blob of blue tack works wonders, or you can use tack nails.
